If your Audacious does not play any more, try opening it from the console and verify if you have this error message:
MADPlug-Message: failed to open audio output: XMMS reverse compatibility output plugin
If you do, close Audacious and remove this directory in your /home directory
rm -rf ~/.config/audacious
Start Audacious and it should start playing again.
