Installing EMBOSS on Ubuntu Gusty

I tried to compile the source code on Ubuntu, but got some errors. I did not want to waste time debugging, so here’s the simplest solution:

  1. install alien
  2. download EMBOSS RPM file: ftp://emboss.open-bio.org/pub/EMBOSS/contrib/RHEL/RPM/EMBOSS-5.0.0-1.i386.rpm
  3. install libgd2-xpm
  4. convert the .rpm to .deb
  5. install the .deb
